We encourage a strong learning and continuous improvement attitude and we do this in a pro-active mode by organizing and facilitating:
Description: A group of people from different teams in the company that are interested in certain subject choose a certain book and they start reading a chapter or two in their own free time and then they meet and discuss the chapters for an hour or two on company time. This happens until they finish the book. The discussions between chapters can include topics such as: What you understood, what you didn’t understood, maybe someone else can explain, what the most interesting thing you learned was, short practical exercises etc. This activity has a rather short time span – 1, 2 months.
Description: A group of interested people join together to explore a certain topic and actually build something. It can also be triggered by the company to learn, explore a certain topic (technology, methodology, framework) that we plan to invest in the future. The usual activities are research, reading books, discussions with each other and programming, developing projects. This type of activity should have as a concrete result and it can span a much larger period of time – several months, depending on the topic and its complexity.
Video sessions on Pluralsight
Description: This activity is similar to the Reading groups but it’s based on video courses on Pluralsight. Pluralsight benefits of a huge vireo courses library: The way this is put into practice is that an interested group of people choose a certain topic and they watch it together on company time. In our experience this is a very quick way of learning. The accounts are paid by the company and are landed to interested colleagues.
Events: process related – Agile/SCRUM/Kanban, coding oriented – TDD Kata
Description: We organize and facilitate events that can be both internal (only members of the company are participating) but also external (members from different companies participate). Such an event consists in coding, exercising Agile SCRUM/Kanban, food, beer & customized mugs or tee-shirts.
